Providing the Skills For Businesses To Emerge Stronger – Victoria State Government
The Victorian Government is giving businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic free access to top online short courses and training events so they can plan for a stronger future and take advantage of new opportunities.
The Government today launched Upskill My Business in partnership with key industry groups and education providers, as part of the $1.7 billion Economic Survival Package supporting Victorian businesses and workers through the impacts of the coronavirus crisis.
The online programs, short courses and events on the Upskill My Business platform cover topics ranging from business innovation and staff development to export preparation – important areas of development that can help shape the future of businesses and individuals.
Examples of courses now available include the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Adapting Your Business in a Pandemic and Deakin University’s Leading Culturally Diverse Teams in the Workplace.
Businesses can find out if there is a program to assist them and their workers at the Upskill My Business website, https://upskill.business.vic.gov.au, or by calling the Business Victoria hotline on 13 22 15.

Women on the Go – Expressions of interest open NOW to share your story with us
Women on the Go is a joint initiative between Yarra Ranges, Knox & Maroondah Councils, celebrating 13 years in 2020, giving local business women an opportunity to network and promote their businesses.
This event, a little different this year due to COVID-19 & therefore being held virtually, is for women working from home, in retail, manufacturing, health, tourism, agriculture, creative industries & more. Commencing with a virtual small business expo, providing an opportunity to learn more and network with others from across the region. A forum follows with guest speakers and presentations from Council’s Small Business team.

Feeling the love during the Corona Pandemic
I just wanted to share a story with you. As a beauty training salon located in the heart of Bayswater, we, like many others, closed our doors back in March for what appears to be an uncertain period of time. By doing so, we closed the doors to our 50 beauty students, 100’s of loyal and supportive clients and our small team of amazing employees. We have adapted to online learning, no easy feat considering we are a kinesthetic industry.
About a week ago, my business partner, Natalie, and I were preparing for an online class when there was an unexpected knock at the door. We went to answer it only to find no-one there but two lovely gift boxes left on the doorstep.
Within these gift boxes we found some beautiful handmade gifts, chocolates and hand written cards expressing gratitude for the work we have done during our time in iso, and it was signed from “all of your students 2020”.
To say we were blown away is an understatement and the tears flowed as we realized just how blessed we are. Thinking about our students and the wonderful gesture reminds us everyday of the reason we are in this business and we look forward to the day we are all back in the training salon together again.
