Getting back to doing what we love
I’ll keep this short, as I know you’ll be busier than ever right now! I’m so proud of the effort and determination of our amazing local businesses to see this pandemic through – and, now we have reached 70% double dosed, charging towards 80% and, indeed, beyond 90% – I know you’ll have already turned your mind to how to reopen in a COVID-Safe way.
To that end, I wanted to take a moment to reach out to provide you with some communications resources that may assist – everything from physical distancing reminders, assistance with digital certificates, and reminders on face mask requirements.

Keep well all!
Taking It Outdoors: Supporting a safer way to open
The Victorian Government is helping councils and businesses breathe new life into neighbourhoods with the $54.5 million Outdoor Economy Package.
By funding a variety of outdoor activations, this package will ensure that local businesses, like shops, hairdressers, beauty services, dance studios and gyms will join restaurants and cafes as leaders in Victoria’s outdoor economy. Funding will also be given to local councils to support the establishment of semi-permanent and permanent outdoor precincts that will be of lasting benefit to communities.
More information about the package can be found here – https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/taking-it-outdoors-supporting-safer-way-open
Boronia CBD Biz Facade Round 2 Grants OPEN
ROUND 2 NOW OPEN: $100,000 worth of Business Façade Grants to help spruce up Boronia’s CBD!
Following on from the first successful round of $50,000, I’m stoked to continue to back in local businesses in the Boronia CBD with a new round of Business Façade Grants as a part of the Andrews Labor Governments Boronia Revitalisation program.
Individual businesses, arcades, shopping centres, community organisation or not-for-profit organisations can apply for a maximum $5,000. This is a 1:1 co-funded contribution, meaning you agree to fund the equal amount applied for in this grant.
It could be for things like a refresh, repair or maintenance to the businesses’ existing façade, window treatments and permanent window fixtures, or signage.
This program is fully funded by the Andrews Labor Government with support from Knox Councip to administer and I was stoked to help secure this program which is backing in local business.
It’s another big step forward in revitalising the CBD, bringing it back to life and enabling our ripper local businesses to thrive.

Local Business Plays Key Role in Fighting COVID-19 Locally
Funding Sustainable Solutions for Packaging Waste
Sparky on a Mission!
Say g’day to the team from McCartney Electrical Solutions. It was great to catch up with them recently and have a chat about what they’ve been up to.
Their Managing Director, Jonno, has a real passion for educating the next generation of electricians – so much so that he and his team were recognised at the Championing Industry in Victorian Schools event earlier this year.
Chatting with Jonno, his passion is clear – and he doesn’t buy into the rhetoric of some that young people are lazy and don’t want to put in the hard yards. His apprentices are living proof. Believing that they can do the job, and to learn, is the first, most important step.
McCartney Electrical are also part of my industry roundtable for the Bayswater Education Plan.
So, a massive shout out to the whole team there – for giving young people a shot at upskilling and getting skills they’ll carry with them for life.
Keep up the great work!
Now Open: Small Business COVID Hardship Fund
The Victorian Government is always looking for more ways to support more businesses in need. That’s why the Victorian Government’s Small Business COVID Hardship Fund will assist eligible small and medium businesses:
- whose operations have been severely impacted by COVID-19 restrictions that have been in place between 27 May 2021 and August 2021
- that have experienced at least a 70% reduction in turnover as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions, and
- that are ineligible for other key COVID-19 Victorian Government business grant programs that have been announced since 27 May 2021.
The program offers grants of $10,000 to eligible small and medium businesses, including employing and non-employing businesses.
It’s specifically designed to help businesses that are able to operate but that have a significantly reduced customer base due to the restrictions, such as pharmacists located in the CBD or manufacturers supplying closed venues, and those whose orders and bookings have been cancelled due to restrictions, such as catering businesses.
